Human skull - Homo Sapiens

This is a cast glass sculpture. I am fascinated by bones, osteology and also like the Memento Mori philosophy - to live fully until we die, to remember we will die. I try my best to get my models anatomically correct and as complex as the technique allows. I sculpt my models in an organic modelling software from scratch, then use a 3d printer to validate the models until they are to my liking. A 3d printed model in PLA (some plastic) is used to create a plaster mold to be emptied by heat. This mold is then used to cast glass in a kiln using a precise schedule. The mold is broken to free the casts which is then coldworked. I glue the jaw to the skull to ensure durability. I join modern techniques to craft techniques for these pieces of art. I also manually sculpt the cast to perfect some areas during the cold working process.
