Human Interaction - Megaptera novaeangliae (Humpback Whale)
Human Interaction
Unusual Mortality Rate, Fused Glass, Ship Strikes, Glass, Entanglement, Metal, Fingerprints
Human Interaction focuses on the hard topic that has hit close to my new home Norfolk, whereas of May 2024, nine whales have died, two being humpback whales. The leading cause to the whale’s deaths are human interaction specifically, vessel strikes and entanglement injuries. I have focused on the humpback whale as it is a keystone species for the ocean’s ecosystem and in society's headspace. The lesions on the whale have been marked by the hands of humans, fused in with scar tissue and cannot be undone.
