Wish - dandelion (Taraxacum Officinale) and Honey Bee (Apis Mellifera)
Madeline & Ori Shir
Greenfield, MA United States
White stars rise into the air, the seeds of hope are dispersed as a wish is made. It all starts with a pollinator.
Blown and sculpted glass in both furnace and flameshop. A nine line reticello backed with blue, encalmoed to textured green glass. Sculpted into a donut, depicting a lens into a moment in time. The flameworked dandelion (Taraxacum Officinale) and Honey Bee (Apis Mellifera) are hot welded. The base in coldworked and finished with metal. This piece is a collaboration between Ori and Madeline Shir under the business of Shir Glassworks.
'Wish' is a story of hope - an appreciation for the little things that come together and allow progress to bloom - an understanding that things that are feared are often misunderstood - and a recognition that important actions often go unnoticed but hold intrinsic value.
