Turkey Tail Mushroom / Trametes versicolor

Emma Wood
Minneapolis, MN United States

This is a replicas of Turkey Tail mushrooms (Trametes versicolor), found on a forage in Minnesota. I flame-worked these with 103 soft glass rods and mimicked the repeating lines of variety of colors this species is found with.
This work is part of an on going series I have been working on "Glass Fungi". Inspired by the Blaschka's body of work and my own fungi documenting since 2014, I began documenting mushroom specimens I have found around Midwest in glass.

Due to Mycology being a newer recognized field of study and we are becoming re aquatinted with their significance to the ecosystem, there is very little documentation compared to the number of species. There are an estimated 5.1 million species of fungi on the earth, and only about 1.5% are actually classified. I have been capturing the unique characteristics and biodiversity of fungi in the glass over the last couple years and a project directly inspired by the Blaschka's work.
