5 x 9 x 7     The Physalis Alkekengi is known variously as the Japanese Lantern, Chinese Lantern, Strawberry Ground Cherry and the Bladder Cherry among other names. Apart from aesthetics the fruit has traditional medicinal uses and cultural significance in multiple parts of the world.

The 2 Japanese Lantern pods are lampworked borosilicate glass. The fruit pods go through various attractive phases in their life cycle. I have chosen to highlight a stage where the fruit is protected and a progression stage where the fruit is exposed to the elements.
