Cutthroat Trout (Oncorhynchus clarki lewisi)

Ryan Bavin
Invermere, BC, Canada

This Westslope Cutthroat Trout (Oncorhynchus clarki lewisi) is an offhand blown and sculpted hot glass sculpture. Westslope Cutthroat Trout are indigenous to the western slopes of the Rocky Mountains of Canada and the United States. It is becoming rarer to find pure strains of these trout as they are prone to hybridizing with introduced species of rainbow trout, the hybrids are know as "cut-bows".
This particular rendition is modelled after Westslope Cutthroat Trout found in tributaries of the Kootenay River in the upper Columbia River watershed of southeastern British Columbia near my home.
