Bloodlines (Oriental Poppy - papaver orientale)
A tribute to the generations of women in my family who cultivated poppies not only for their beauty but also for their culinary significance. My Mom, Grandmother, and great Grandmother nurtured gardens filled with the most beautiful and vibrant of flowers, where poppies reigned as one of the central stars. But they also saved and used the seeds in Bohemian kolaches and other sweetbreads.
The dried seed capsule represents my Mom and previous generations. The full blossoms represent me and my siblings who carry on the tradition of cultivating poppies in our gardens, and the opening bud represents future generations.
The poppies were made using my non-traditional Pâte de Verre technique and the vase was made using the drop out technique. All components were made using Bullseye glass.
Dimensions: 18 x 12 x 12 inches
