Alessia Fuga
Diplotaxis tenuifolia-Wild arugula
Alessia Fuga
Venezia, Murano Italy
This is a reproduction of a small wild plant I often encountered during my walks in the countryside surrounding the hometown of my family. A wild arugula, crafted using the Murano glass lampworking technique, placed inside a 1970s silver box with an aventurine lid. The box is also filled with common grass, also made using lampworking. The small glass bee in the composition seems enchanted by the brilliance of the aventurine.
This plant is part of my Bric-à-Brac collection, where spontaneous plants found a home in small or medium containers donated by those who wished to participate in the project. Spontaneous plants grow where it is often difficult for us to see any possibility of life. With Bric-à-Brac, I wanted to celebrate the moment when, after processing grief, people feel ready to leave behind an emotional space filled only with sorrow and are able to return to thinking lovingly about their lost loved ones. This precious and delicate moment is celebrated by filling containers that once belonged to those who are no longer with us with small spontaneous plants. This plant have been made in the loving memory of Nerina.
