Lipstick Powderhorn Lichen (Cladonia Macilenta)

David Licata
Somers, NY United States

On a recent hike in the Shawangunks NY I encountered this unique lichen. I wanted the challenge of creating something so tiny and full with texture and movement. This is created using torch worked borosilicate glass rods, powders and Frits. Over a few weeks I dipped 1mm stringers in Frits and powders and networked them together creating two sections of this tiny lichen. The chainmail base is meant to reference the textures of the moss beds and pine needles that this lichen is found upon.
