Banded Archer Fish

Robert Mickelsen
Ocala, FL United States

This sculpture portrays the remarkable Banded Archer Fish using its unique hunting technique - squirting a stream of water at its prey to knock it into the water where he can eat it. The Archer Fish's aim is impeccable and somehow compensates for the visual distortion caused by the water's index of refraction. There are a number of species of Archer Fish, but I have chosen the Banded variety - Toxotes jaculatrix. The bug and plant are not species-specific.
