Texas Horned Lizard – Phrynosoma Cornutum, Commonly known as the Horny Toad
This is a flat-bodied and fierce looking desert lizard. Prominent horns and spines on the head, body and sides are the first level of self defense; second is the ability to puff up and appear larger to potential predators. The third and most unusual is that it can shoot a stream of blood directly from the center of the eye. It can aim the stream of blood; project it up to 6 feet; and repeat this up to 10 times in succession. This vile smelling blood can unsettle the canids (often coyotes) that typically prey on the lizard to the point that they retreat
Dimensions: 4 x 8 x 6 inches
